The first picture (Left) is a current S6-E Morini 50cc Engine. Notice the carburetor is going into the engine case/block.

The second picture (Center) is a S5-E Morini Engine, the carburetor is going into the cylinder.

Look at your bike and compare to see if you have a S5 or S6 Morini before ordering parts.

KTM 50 SX & KTM50SXR model 1995-1997

KTM 50cc bike from 1995- 2001 used MORINI FRANCO MOTORI engines, some people say FRANCO MORINI MOTORI. These bikes are built solid and will be around for a long time, passed down from one kid to the next when they out grow them. Chassis parts are difficult to find but the Morini Franco engines are very popular and we have a great supply available.

Above is a 1995-1997 KTM 50SX or KTM50 SXR model. This year KTM 50 model uses a Morini Franco S5-E or S5N engine. The “E” code is for non-reed block STEEL cylinder. The “N” is code for non-reed ALUMINUM cylinder. This easy to see it from a distance because if the cylinder is “SILVER” in color is the aluminum cylinder. If its BLACK in color it's the STEEL cylinder. Both cylinders have a intake manifold with only two bolts.

The pistons are different for these two models. The STEEL cylinder piston rings are not the same top and bottom. The top ring is a “L” shape the bottom ring is just flat. The aluminum cylinder piston uses two flat rings.

1997 KTM50 Pro Junior

To the left is a 1997 KTM 50 Pro Junior model. This year KTM50 Pro Jr. model uses a Morini Franco S5-T engine. The “T” is the code for the 2-pedal reed block cylinder. The 1997 Junior model was the only year & model that used the “T” cylinder. This easy to see it from a distance because the cylinder is silver in color and uses a intake manifold with only two bolts. The piston has a round hole in the intake side. The ring are not the same top and bottom. The top ring is a “L” shape the bottom ring is just flat.

KTM50 Pro JR 1998-2001
To the right is a 1998 - 2002 KTM 50 Pro Junior model. These year models all use a Morini Franco S5-GS engine. The “GS” is the code for the 4-pedal reed block cylinder. This easy to see it from a distance because the cylinder is BLACK in color and uses a intake manifold with four bolts. The piston has a ovel hole in the intake side. The ring are the same top and bottom. Check the head gasket some models had a rubber “o”ring and other bikes had a copper ring/paper head gasket.
1997 – 2000 KTM Pro Senior
Above is a 1997 - 2000 KTM 50 Pro senior model. These year models all use a Morini Franco S5-GS engine. The “GS” is the code for the 4-pedal reed block cylinder. This easy to see it from a distance because the cylinder is BLACK in color and uses a intake manifold with four bolts. The piston has a ovel hole in the intake side. The ring are the same top and bottom. Check the head gasket some models had a rubber “o”ring and other bikes had a copper ring/paper head gasket. The other only difference for the different years is the clutch assembly. The early year bikes had a 2-shoe clutch design and the last couple of models had a disc style clutch. Its best to remove the clutch cover ans see what model clutch style you have.

Morini Franco Automatic S5 Engine 50cc

This engine is the most popular, from the late 1960's, up until 2001, and used by many various motorcycle manufacturers, it is unusual because the kick-start lever goes forward (opposite to a normal bike). The S5 has a vertical cylinder with the carburetor bolted on to it.

Manufacturers that have used this engine are as follows: Italjet/Indian, Malaguti, LEM, KTM, Husky, DBM, Young Rider plus many others.

In the early 1990's the engine was also developed for more power, this included 2 and 4 reed valve cylinders with big cooling fins and bigger carbs ( S5GS ). Manufacturers that have used this engine include: Husky, KTM (pre 2001), DB Motors, LEM, Rivara, DBM.

The Husky version of this engine was fitted with an ‘O' ring head gasket & thicker base gasket in later years.

Husqvarna/Husky 50cc

Husqvarna or Husky 50cc bikes have been produced since 1997. From 1997-2001 they were supplied with Morini Franco GS engines. Models from 2002 forward have the S6 syle Morini Franco engines.

Italjet

Italjet is one of the oldest producers of 50cc motocross bikes. Italjet is made in Italy and they use engines made locally by Morini Franco. These bikes were made since the early 1970s, however we only stock engine parts for 1990s and current bikes. Italjet gave each model a name like Buster, Buster II, Coyote, Fast Boy, etc.
